Farhan Zaidi’s 2019 outfield frenzy continues. Reports came out today that the team is planning to call up outfielder Mike Gerber from Triple-A Sacramento. Shortly following the news, Jon Heyman reported that Gerardo Parra will be designated for assignment as the corresponding move.

Throughout his time with the Giants, Parra struggled offensively. The eleven-year veteran hit .198/.278/.276 with one home run and six RBI’s. Despite his offensive struggles, Parra was solid defensively, with four outfield assists already this season, Parra ranked fourth in baseball in that department.

The move to call up Gerber is not surprising, because of his early success in Sacramento. Through 92 plate-appearances in AAA, Gerber is hitting .357/.402/.655 with a team-leading six home runs and 15 RBIs. Alongside teammate Mac Williamson, Gerber was an outfielder who’s success at AAA sparked conversation surrounding a potential call up to the major league level.

Rookie Tyler Beede, who is one of the team’s top pitching prospects, is slated to start Friday against the Cincinnati Reds. A corresponding move has yet to be made, but will likely be announced prior to game time.
