49ers sign defensive back Alex Brown to three-year deal

The San Francisco 49ers today announced they have signed DB Alex Brown to a three-year deal and waived DL Damontre Moore. Brown was a participant in the team’s rookie minicamp.

Brown (5-11, 170) joins the 49ers as an undrafted free agent from South Carolina State University. He appeared in 31 games (25 starts) during his five years with the Bulldogs (2014-18) and registered 90 tackles, 26 passes defensed, seven interceptions and one sack.

In 2018, Brown made starts in all 11 games in which he appeared, finishing the season with 42 tackles, eight passes defensed, four interceptions and one sack. As a junior in 2017, he started 10 games and registered 22 tackles, 11 passes defensed and three interceptions. In 2016, he appeared in 10 games (four starts) where he added 26 tackles and seven passes defensed. He did not see action in 2015 following a redshirt season in 2014.

A 22-year-old native of Santee, SC, Brown attended Lake Marian (Santee, SC) High School where he registered 62 tackles on defense to go along with 950 rushing yards and five rushing touchdowns as a senior.

Moore (6-1, 205) originally signed with the 49ers as a free agent on April 5, 2019 following his time with the San Diego Fleet of the Alliance of American Football (AAF).
