The Giants traded veteran catcher Erik Kratz to the Rays last week for a player to be named later. We now know who that player is. San Francisco has acquired right-handed pitcher Matt Seelinger from the Tampa Bay farm system, the club announced Monday.

Seelinger, 24, was a 28th round pick in 2017 by the Pittsburgh Pirates. He landed with the Rays as part of the Adeiny Hechavarria deal last summer. In 62 Single-A relief appearances over the past three seasons, Seelinger has posted a 3.21 ERA and 1.143 WHIP. He has 111 career strikeouts against 29 walks in 84 innings as a professional.

He’s allowed 10 runs in just nine innings pitched this season.
