Kevin Durant discusses social media behavior since injury

Kevin Durant has never been one to hold back on social media. Since joining the Warriors, Durant’s social media habits, and his proclivity to respond to and engage with seemingly anybody, have been the subject of interest and criticism from the media.

Following a quiet period, Durant’s engagement ramped up again in recent weeks, following the calf injury that sidelined him during the tail end of the series vs. the Rockets. First there was his response to Seth Curry’s assertion that the Warriors were harder to guard without him, then there was his back-and-forth with Fox Sports reporter Chris Broussard, where KD accused him of lying about text messages.

Durant spoke to reporters for the first time since his injury at shootaround on Friday, and was asked by Anthony Slater why he chooses to be so active on social media.

“Because I have social media,” Durant said. “I’m a human being with a social media account. I could see if I ventured off into like politics or like culinary arts or music and giving my input, but I’m sticking to something that I know.

“I’m qualified to talk about basketball. So when I respond to something, especially when it’s about me personally, of course I’m going to tell you if you’re wrong about it at the moment. When I’m on the training table getting treatment on my calf and I see a tweet and I disagree, I don’t talk to people ’cause I’m worried about what they’re saying, it’s that I’m interested.”

Speaking of the calf, Durant still hasn’t been cleared for on court work, and is expected to miss Game 1 of the NBA Finals next Thursday.
