On Friday, the San Francisco Giants participated in one of the most absurd first innings of the season. The team got off to an incredibly hot (and unlikely) start to the game, going up 5-0 in the first inning.
It was the first time the Giants had scored more than three runs in the first inning all season. It began with a one-run triple from Mike Yastrzemski followed by and RBI single from Buster Posey:

After a sacrifice fly from Brandon Crawford, Steven Duggar drove in two with a bases-loaded, two-out, opposite-field single to push the lead to 5-0:

But that lead vanished almost immediately, as the Baltimore Orioles tagged Drew Pomeranz for six runs in the bottom half of the inning, which was punctuated by back-to-back errors from Crawford and Duggar, which multiplied the injury of two run-scoring singles. Then, with the bases loaded, Pomeranz allowed a two-out grand slam to Dwight Smith Jr., giving the Orioles a 6-5 lead, which Yastrzemski quickly turned into an even 6-6 scoreline with his first career home run in the top of the second.
Of course, the scoring didn’t end there. Pomeranz secured just one more out before he was pulled from the game for Dereck Rodriguez in the bottom of the second inning. After securing a leadoff out, Pomeranz gave up a bunt single to Jonathan Villar before allowing a two-run home run to Renato Nunez to give the Orioles an 8-6 lead.
