Bruce Bochy responds to Madison Bumgarner trade rumors

Bruce Bochy is a fan of Madison Bumgarner.

He also says he has the same amount of knowledge as a fan about the Giants ace’s future.

“I’m not going to go into that,” the manager said Friday when asked his opinion about whether Bumgarner would be dealt. “I’m not going to go with my gut with this one. I don’t know.”

Speaking before San Francisco opened a series at Oracle Park against the Dodgers, Bochy pivoted to expressing how much Bumgarner has meant to him since arriving in 2009.

“Obviously I think the world of this man. I hope he’s here. I don’t know,” Bochy said.

“As a manager, these are my guys. … I haven’t heard anything. I have no reason to think all these guys are not going to be with me. There’s nothing I’ve heard, nothing that’s going on.”

A day earlier, Giants president of baseball operations Farhan Zaidi signaled that the trade winds will soon begin blowing after Dallas Keuchel (Braves) and Craig Kimbrel (Cubs) were removed from the market. The Giants are heading toward being deadline sellers, entering Friday at 25-36, while carrying a stud pitcher proven in October who’s a free agent at year’s end.
