With the OTAs portion of the offseason set to conclude with mandatory mini-camps from June 11-13, the 49ers may have to prepare for a change in the front office. According to Peter Schrager of FoxSports.com, the 49ers Vice President of Player Personnel Martin Mayhew is set to interview for the vacant general manager position with the Houston Texans.

Mayhew, the 53-year-old former GM of the Detroit Lions, attended Georgetown Law School after a nine-year pro career as a cornerback with the Washington Redskins, where he won a Super Bowl XXVI, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He initially joined the Lions’ front office in 2001 before being appointed to Senior Vice president and Assistant General Manager in 2004.

Mayhew was promoted to General Manager of the Lions in 2004 once the team fired Matt Millen. After being fired by the Lions in 2015, Mayhew joined the New York Giants in 2016 as Director of Football Operations before joining the 49ers in 2017 as a senior personnel executive before being promoted to Vice President of Player Personnel in 2019.
