The San Francisco 49ers placed the franchise tag on kicker Robbie Gould earlier this off-season, but Gould has refused to sign the one-year tag and even requested a trade from the team. Adam Schefter of ESPN has just reported that the kicker will continue his holdout, and will not be in attendance at this week’s minicamp.

The 49ers tried to engage in contract extension talks with Gould this off-season but the two sides were reportedly far apart and he requested a trade shortly after. It has been widely speculated that the kicker would like to return to Chicago, where he began his NFL career and kicked for the Bears for 11 years. His family also still lives in Chicago. However, Kyle Shanahan has been adamant that the team has no interest in trading the kicker.

Gould has been one of the more consistent 49ers the past two years. In 2018 he was successful on 33 of his 34 field goal attempts.
