LOS ANGELES — Hunter Bishop has shown no signs of possibly rejecting the Giants, but two and a half weeks after the draft, the two sides have not signed a deal.
The Giants announced Wednesday they had signed 23 players from the First-Year Player Draft, but no deals have been reached with their top two picks.
Bishop, who played at Serra High, is out of the College World Series, while their second-round pick, first baseman Logan Wyatt, is still unsigned and still playing with Louisville. Wyatt’s teammate Tyler Fitzgerald, a shortstop and the Giants’ fourth-round pick, also has not agreed to a pact yet.
It’s unclear the hold-up, but it’s possible the Giants are waiting for the College World Series to be finished so they can finalize the bonus money.
The highest-round draft pick they have signed is third-rounder Grant McCray, a center fielder from Lakewood Ranch High School in Florida.
“I couldn’t have dreamt it up any better,” Bishop, who grew up a Giants fan, told “Gary & Larry” after the draft. “I’m really, really happy.”
