Though not yet official, it has been rumored for a few days that former BYU sharpshooter Jimmer Fredette will join the Warriors summer league team this offseason. That scenario became even more likely on Monday when the Phoenix Suns declined Fredette’s team option, “clearing the way” for him to join the Warriors according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.

Fredette, 30, was quickly labeled as a bust after being selected with the 10th overall pick in the 2011 NBA Draft. Despite a hot start where he scored 21 points in his NBA debut vs. the Warriors, Fredette shot just 38.6 percent his rookie year, and never averaged more than seven points a game in his five NBA seasons before continuing his career in China with the Shanghai Sharks.

Fredette was named the MVP of the CBA (Chinese Basketball Association) in 2017 and has averaged 37.2 points per game in China over the last two seasons. Fredette joined the Suns in March of last season and averaged 3.7 points in the six games he appeared.
