Evan Longoria goes down, too, as Giants suddenly banged up

Just before a doubleheader is not the time to be banged up.

But that’s where the Giants found themselves Sunday, as Evan Longoria became the latest injury concern when he was lifted in the fifth inning of their game at Miller Park.

The Giants announced the 33-year-old had left foot discomfort, and the severity is unknown.

Austin Slater pinch-hit for him, Slater himself benched because he was sick earlier in the day. The other outfielder new to the big-league Giants who has emerged as a threat, Alex Dickerson, was sitting his second straight game with back spasms.

Just a few days ago, the Giants’ outfield looked overflowing, as Steven Duggar remains at Triple-A Sacramento without a place to play. Now, the Giants are hoping to stay healthy enough to field lineups for Monday’s doubleheader in Colorado.
