Bumgarner reacts to not being traded: ‘I never expected to be somewhere else’

PHILADELPHIA — After months of rumors and conjecture, Madison Bumgarner will finish the 2019 season as a San Francisco Giant. That became apparent when the trade deadline came and went on Wednesday, with the Giants making a flurry of moves, none of which that involved the big lefty.

Bumgarner spoke to reporters after the dust settled, and frankly didn’t seem much affected.

“I feel the exact same, honestly,” Bumgarner said when asked if he was relieved. “I feel like I did a good job not letting that creep into my head, and that’s it. So no it didn’t.

“I’ve seen it before where stuff comes up last minute. So you never know, but in the end I’ve got a job to do like I said so many times. No matter what the case I’ve got a job to do and I never plan for anything that I don’t know is going to happen. So nothing changed for me.

“I never expected to be somewhere else. So like I said nothing has changed for me.”

Bumgarner even said that he and his wife hadn’t planned for the possibility of him being moved.

“We were just going to handle it as it came to us, if it did.”

Bumgarner is scheduled to be a free agent at the end of this season.
