After losing backup offensive tackle Shon Coleman for the season with a fractured fibula and dislocated ankle in the preseason opener, the 49ers have reportedly signed veteran Sam Young to replace him, according to Ian Rappoport of NFL Network.

Young, 32, is a nine-year veteran and is expected to slot into the “swing tackle” spot, essentially acting as a backup to both Joe Staley and Mike McGlinchey. Young spent the previous three seasons as a member of the Dolphins and appeared in 12 games last season. Young was drafted by the Cowboys in 2010 and has also spent time in Buffalo and Jacksonville, starting a total of 21 games while appearing in 88 throughout his career.

Coleman was injured on the fourth play of Saturday’s game vs. the Cowboys, and was placed on the injured reserve on Monday.
