The home run derby that broke out at Chase Field on Friday did not stop Saturday.
Brandon Belt, he of the most well-chronicled slump on the Giants, sent a Taylor Clarke fastball 389 feet to right in the second inning in Arizona, grand slamming the Giants into the lead.
The Giants had loaded the bases mostly accidentally, Alex Dickerson walking, Scooter Gennett hitting a grounder that Wilmer Flores got too fancy on for an error, and Kevin Pillar blooping in a single to right.
But Belt didn’t apologize during his second homer in as many days, the scuffling longtime Giant showing signs of breaking out of his funk after he had been dropped from leadoff to No. 7 in the order.
The Giants loaded the bases a second time in the frame, with Evan Longoria hitting a long sacrifice that made it 5-2 Giants.
