Scooter Gennett’s brief stay in San Francisco has come to a close.

The Giants placed the second baseman on unconditional release waivers on Tuesday afternoon prior to a game against the Arizona Diamondbacks. The Giants made the move in conjunction with calling up Mauricio Dubon, a top infield prospect acquired from Milwaukee in exchange for Drew Pomeranz and Ray Black.

Gennett played in 21 games for the Giants, hitting two homers with six RBIs while slashing .234/.327/.391.

The team acquired Gennett at the trade deadline in a swap with Cincinnati, where he also played 21 games this season, for a player to be named later. He was an All-Star last season with the Reds when he launched 23 homers, drove in 92 runs, and put up a .310/.357/.490 slash line, but he couldn’t mimic that production during his time in the Bay.

He had not recorded a hit since Aug. 18 and during his time with the Giants he struck out 21 times and only walked once.
