SANTA CLARA – The 49ers’ final receiving corps is still unclear. But two wide outs (along with Dante Pettis) who are sure to make the team are rookies Deebo Samuel and Jalen Hurd. While their skillsets and frames are different – Samuel is more of a slot, speed threat at 5’11, 214 pounds, while Hurd is 6’4, 227 pounds and plays the Z and F positions off the line of scrimmage – they do have some defining attributes in common.

Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo joined Tolbert, Krueger and Brooks on KNBR 680 on Wednesday and explained why both have impressed so far despite being “raw” talents.

“A little different types of receivers between the two of them, but both, if you put them in spots to be successful, they’re going to make you look good as a quarterback, and you love having that, just their run-after-catch ability, how they attack the ball,” Garoppolo said. “They don’t let the ball get into their body, they use their hands. Those are all traits that you don’t usually see out of rookies, but it’s very encouraging and they’re both so raw right now, which is good and bad, but it’s exciting because there’s so much more room for them to grow.”
