Arrest warrant issued for former Warrior DeMarcus Cousins [report]

An arrest warrant has been issued for former Golden State Warriors center DeMarcus Cousins on a domestic violence charge, as first reported by USA Today.

This comes just two days after TMZ released audio of Cousins threatening to kill his ex-girlfriend and mother of his child, Christy West, for not letting his seven-year-old son attend his recent wedding to Morgan Lang.

Charlotte M. Solis, a spokesperson for the Mobile police, spoke to USA Today Sports on Thursday and said “an arrest warrant has been issued.”

The Mobile Police Department’s website says Cousins’ domestic violence charge is a 3rd degree harassing communications charge — which is a misdemeanor that carries a maximum punishment of one year behind bars.

On Tuesday both the NBA and the Los Angeles Lakers released statements on the initial incident.

NBA spokesman Mike Bass said in a statement that: “We are aware of the report regarding DeMarcus Cousins and are investigating the allegations.”

The Los Angeles Lakers said: “We are aware of the allegation involving DeMarcus Cousins and, of course, take this claim seriously. We are in the process of gathering information and will reserve further comment at this time.”

West is seeking a restraining order against Cousins, alleging that he threatened her and previously choked her.

Cousins, 29, signed a one-year deal with the Los Angeles Lakers this offseason after spending last season with the Golden State Warriors. He suffered a torn ACL last month and could miss the entire 2019-20 NBA season.
