Few people know Bruce Bochy as well as Dave Righetti. Righetti worked with Bochy from 2007-2017, and was the Giants’ pitching coach on all three World Series teams.

Just days before Bochy’s retirement, Righetti hopped on with Tolbert, Krueger & Brooks to talk about Bochy’s tenure. During the conversation, Righetti was asked which of the Giants’ three titles had the most to do with the skipper’s managerial acumen.

“I think 2012 when we we were behind so much to Cincinnati and then St. Louis,” Righetti said. “We weren’t in control of that at all, you know, so to speak. We were flying by the seat of our pants.”

The Giants won six elimination games during that postseason after going down 0-2 to the Reds in the NLDS and 1-3 to the Cardinals in the NLCS, before sweeping the heavily favored Detroit Tigers.

“Then Bochy’s famous speech in Cincinnati that I thought was really good and the players were all fired up, then (Hunter) Pence stood up and said ‘screw that,’ and he started going into his thing.

“Guys ran on the field like they were gonna tackle the kickoff guy or something. So I think ’12, yeah”
