Tyler Beede is OK. He sounds better than OK.

The rookie Giants starter, who left his final outing of the season Thursday after 3 1/3 innings to head to an MRI tube, has a mild oblique strain. He will take about a month off — which he would do anyway — and see a physical therapist before he begins throwing again.

“Honestly, the best news from what I’d been feeling,” Beede said Friday before the Giants opened their season-finale series against the Dodgers at Oracle Park. “Just a couple weeks of rest and rehab and then a normal offseason from there.”

There was a touch of irony to his imperfect ending; he was perfect in his 10 outs, which included seven strikeouts of the Rockies, showing some of the best stuff he’s flashed this season.

Beede said he feels he’s established himself as a major league starter.

“Twelve months ago to now, I feel a lot more confident in my ability to just go out there and compete,” Beede said about his season, which finished with a 5.08 ERA. “Learned a ton. Worked through some ups and downs. Got a little more consistent toward the end of the year.”

At times he showed the complete package the Giants coveted out of Vanderbilt. At times he looked like a rookie. He had a 7.25 ERA in five August starts, but that dropped to 3.28 in September.

Between the minors and majors, he made 31 appearances this season, injury not befalling him until the very end. He’s proud of that fact.

“I have the ability to make right around there next year. That’s my goal,” the 26-year-old said. “A lot of things have to be going your way to make every start, but I think that’s a realistic goal.”
