On Friday KOIN 6, a TV station in Portland, obtained video that shows former 49ers assistant coach Keanon Lowe taking a loaded gun from a student at Parkrose High School.

Angel Granados-Diaz brought a loaded gun to the Portland high school back on May 17. Lowe was able to take the gun from Granados-Diaz and hand it off to another teacher before any shots were fired.

“I felt compassion for the kid, to be honest,” Lowe said in a press conference. “I had a real-life conversation. Obviously, he broke down and I just wanted to let him know that I was there for him. I told him I was there to save him — I was there for a reason and that this is a life worth living.”

Keanon Lowe works as a security guard and football coach at Parkrose High. Before that he was a standout wide receiver at the University of Oregon from from 2011 to 2014. He then worked under Chip Kelly as an offensive analyst in Philadelphia in 2015 before working under Kelly with the 49ers in 2016.

Granados-Diaz pleaded guilty to bringing a loaded gun into a public place on October 10. It should be noted that both the prosecutors and defense attorneys stressed in court that they believe Granados-Diaz’s intent was to commit suicide, not harm anyone else.
