Steve Kerr made hilarious bet with coaching staff before Warriors-Pelicans game

You can’t blame Steve Kerr for trying to keep things light.

After a truly atrocious start to the season where the Warriors gave up a combined 261 points in their first two games, Kerr had a little fun with his coaching staff before Monday’s game in New Orleans.

“I have to admit something to you,” Kerr told Tolbert, Krueger and Brooks on Tuesday afternoon. “I set an over/under with the rest of the coaching staff on total points. This is probably against NBA rules — I may lose my job over this, probably not a smart thing to say on the radio — but before the game, seeing their lineup and seeing our lineup: they’re small, we’re small, we got shooters everywhere, so do they.

“For $1, over/under, I think I set it at 228. Aaron Miles (Player Development Coach) jumped in, he goes, ‘Under, it’s going under.’ Poor Aaron. The last two minutes, I think New Orleans made like five 3s or something.

“And by that time I had completely forgotten about it. Then we get into the locker room after the game and Aaron hands me a dollar, and I burst out laughing.”

Not only did Kerr become a dollar richer on Monday night, but the Warriors also got their first win of the season, emphatically so, beating the Pelicans 134-123 in a game that was less close than the final score.

As far as this being against NBA rules, we here at the sports leader believe that any wager under $5 dollars isn’t technically gambling. Let’s hope Adam Silver has the same philosophy.
