49ers promote defensive lineman to active roster, place Moore on IR

The San Francisco 49ers today announced they have promoted DL Jeremiah Valoaga (VAH-low-UN-guh) to the active roster from the team’s practice squad. In order to make room on the roster, the team placed DL Damontre Moore on the Injured Reserve List. The team also signed DL Alex Barrett to the practice squad.

Valoaga (6-6, 275) originally entered the NFL after signing with the Detroit Lions as an undrafted rookie free agent on May 12, 2017. As a rookie in 2017, he appeared in nine games and registered five tackles and 1.0 sack prior to being waived from the team on November 25, 2017. On November 29, 2017, he was signed to Detroit’s practice squad where he spent the remainder of the season. After signing a Reserve/Future contract with the Lions on January 1, 2018, Valoaga spent training camp with the team and was later waived on August 31, 2018. He was then signed to the Miami Dolphins practice squad on September 26, 2018, where he spent the remainder of the season. After signing a Reserve/Future contract with the Dolphins on January 1, 2019, he was waived on May 2. He later signed with the 49ers on August 8, was released on August 31 and signed to the team’s practice squad the following day.

A 25-year-old native of Oxnard, CA, Valoaga attended the University of Nevada, Las Vegas where he appeared in 39 games and registered 88 tackles, 9.0 sacks, seven passes defensed, two fumble recoveries and one forced fumble.

Valoaga will wear number 92.

Moore (6-4, 260) was signed by the team on November 13, 2019. He appeared in each of the previous two games and registered five tackles and one forced fumble.

Barrett (6-2, 250) originally entered the NFL after signing with the Detroit Lions as an undrafted rookie free agent on May 12, 2017. As a rookie in 2017, he appeared in two games and registered one tackle and 1.0 sack prior to being waived from the team on September 20, 2017. On September 22, 2017, he was signed to Detroit’s practice squad where he spent the remainder of the season. After signing a Reserve/Future contract with the Lions on January 1, 2018, Barrett spent the majority of the season on Detroit’s practice squad. He then signed with the Oakland Raiders on April 6, 2019, and was waived on September 3.

A 25-year-old native of Mesa, AZ, Barrett attended San Diego State University where he appeared in 50 games (38 starts) and registered 169 tackles, 19.0 sacks, eight passes defensed, three forced fumbles and two interceptions.
