Andrews says ‘flag plant’ celebration was payback for Bosa’s Oklahoma disrespect

Nick Bosa had some fun at the expense of Baker Mayfield when the 49ers beat down the Browns in October.

Bosa, a graduate of Ohio State, trolled Mayfield, a graduate of the University of Oklahoma, by doing a flag plant celebration after sacking the quarterback, a reference to Mayfield planting the OU flag at midfield in Ohio Stadium when the Sooners beat the Buckeyes in 2017.

Bosa had some words for Mayfield too.

“I was just screaming his name like ‘Bakerrrr, Bakerrr. C’mon, pick it up, we want a challenge.’ He was just looking at me.

“I don’t know how anybody thought he’d be able to see over Arik (Armstead) and (DeForest Buckner). He was panicking, he was double-clutching, rolling back and forth, we had him rattled all game.”

During Sunday’s 20-17 win over the 49ers, Ravens tight end Mark Andrews, who played with Mayfield in that fateful 2017 matchup, did his best to reprimand Bosa. Andrews, after catching a touchdown pass in the first quarter, did the flag plant celebration along with a few of his teammates.

After the game, the tight end explained, and implied he did some trash talking of his own.

“Yeah it was a little comeback,” Andrews said. “‘Bosa, Bosa,’ you know one of those things, just like he said ‘Baker, Baker.’ It is what it is. Just having fun out there.

“You kind of talk bad about Oklahoma you’re going to get reprimanded.”
