Russell Westbrook calls ‘game over’ moments before Kings hit game-winning shot

File this one under things you really, really just hate to see.

Monday night the Sacramento Kings found themselves in a tough spot late against the Houston Rockets. After Buddy Hield knocked in a 3-pointer to tie the game at 116 with eight seconds left in the contest, former MVP Russell Westbrook took the inbound, drove the length of the court – right past Hield – and got a tough finger roll to go at the front of the rim.

Things looked all but over for Sacramento. So much so that cameras showed Westbrook telling teammate P.J. Tucker ‘game over’ right after hitting the would-be game winner.

But you know what happens next. You read the headline.

The Kings were able to advance the ball with a timeout. Serbian international Nemanja Bjelica got a clean look thanks to some clever misdirection from his teammates, took a deep three and absolutely buried it.

Game. Over.

Tough look for Westbrook, and tough loss for the Rockets.

The loss dropped the Rockets to 15-8 on the season and 9-3 at home. Sacramento moved to 10-13 on the year, only a game behind the Suns for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference.
