Caesars sets over/under win totals and is not a Giants believer

The Giants have lost Bruce Bochy, Madison Bumgarner, Will Smith and Stephen Vogt, among others. One prominent sportsbook has them losing six additional games, as well.

Caesars released its projected 2020 over/under win totals this week, and Vegas does not appear to be a believer in how quickly Farhan Zaidi can turn the organization around. A franchise that has opted (so far) for subtle moves over splashes this offseason and has lost a chunk of its 2019 production is slated for 71 wins.

That would put them 20 games under .500 — 71-91 — after overachieving their way to 77-85 last season. The Giants hope a novel new coaching staff, young players a year older and better and this year’s flier crop will make Gabe Kapler’s first year in San Francisco a success.

Caesars pegs them as last place in the NL West, with the win projections:

Dodgers: 99
Diamondbacks: 83
Padres: 83
Rockies: 74
Giants: 71

The Dodgers are always stacked. Arizona’s bulking up includes Bumgarner, and San Diego believes it has built a threatening bullpen thanks in part to bringing in Drew Pomeranz, while Colorado reportedly is debating dealing Nolan Arenado. The Giants, still building for the future, have Kevin Gausman as their biggest and priciest add.

Around baseball, Gerrit Cole’s Yankees are atop the projections at 101 wins, and the Orioles and Tigers are tied for last at 55 1/2.
