KNBR’s own Larry Krueger broke some news on Monday, tweeting that a source told him Joey Bosa, who was in attendance at Levi’s Stadium on Saturday to watch his brother Nick Bosa, wants to join the 49ers when he becomes a free agent in 2021.

So, what does 49ers beat writer Matt Maiocco think of this proposition? He’s not ruling it out.

“I think that when you see your younger brother down on the ground after making a sack and you probably have a good idea that the wind is knocked out of him,” Maiocco began. “You hear the crowd chanting your brother’s name when you see him get up and get that kind of reaction from your home crowd, and you’re in a situation for four seasons where even your home games feel like road games, I can totally understand why Joey Bosa would want out of that situation and go to a place that has that kind of energy, that kind of fan support, and knowing that Nick is having the time of his life.”

The elder Bosa, 24, has made the Pro Bowl in the two full seasons he’s played since being drafted by the Chargers in 2016, and was named as the league’s Defensive Rookie of the Year. The Chargers made the playoffs in just one of those seasons, and are coming off a five win year with quarterback Phillip Rivers slated to become an unrestricted free agent this offseason. Bosa is on course to become an unrestricted free agent next offseason.

“He absolutely loves being in that locker room,” Maiocco said of Nick Bosa and the 49ers. “It’s a great locker room, he fits in perfectly. I got to believe there’s a part of Joey that’s envious of his little brother and the situation that Nick absolutely lucked into with the 49ers.

“Right now this time last year everybody expected Nick Bosa to be the number one overall pick and his season would’ve gone a lot differently had he gone to Arizona and not the 49ers. I don’t know how that would be possible to have both Bosas on the team, but I completely understand why Joey would want to join his brother and be on the same team as him.”
