UConn RB released from hospital; football future in doubt

March 1, 2013

There's both good and not-so-good news on the Martin Hyppolite front to report.

The good?  The Hartford Courant is reporting that the UConn running back has been released from a New Hampshire hospital, three days after sustaining significant injuries in an automobile crash.  Hyppolite was a passenger in a vehicle being driven by a 22-year-old male that slammed head-on into another; the driver of that vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene.

It has yet to be determined if criminal charges will result from the crash, which occurred at nine a.m. local time Saturday.

Unfortunately for Hyppolite, UConn confirmed that, while he's out of the hospital, the soon-to-be senior's football player career is very much in doubt.  The school said that the player will undergo extensive rehabilitation as he attempts to recover from what are still unspecified injuries.

According to the Courant, Hyppolite could be back on campus this week and may do part of his rehab in Storrs.
