Following up on the news from yesterday, Bill Battle was given the stamp of approval from Alabama's Board of Trustees on Friday to become the schools' new athletic director, succeeding Mal Moore.
While the terms of Battle's contract with UA aren't official, university president Judy Bonner has recommended that Battle be signed to an initial four-year term with an annual salary of $620,000. At 71, Battle is only two years younger than Moore, who was forced to step down earlier this week because of health reasons.
Battle and Moore share more than similar ages. Like Moore, Battle also played under legendary coach Bear Bryant and has deep roots with the Crimson Tide. After his playing and coaching days ended — Battle was the head coach at Tennessee in the 1970′s — he embarked on a successful business career. His most notable company, Collegiate Licensing Company, sold for more than $100 million to IMG in 2007.
