Monday was the last day NFL teams could bestow the franchise tag to players, but by the time the 1 p.m. deadline passed, 49ers safety Dashon Goldson, previously considered a potential franchise target, was left untagged.

That's just fine with Pro Bowler, who held the 49ers franchise tag a year ago and has been clamoring for the security of a long-term deal this go around (after having a season that proved he is certainly deserving of as much). Despite those wishes, the Niners were reportedly flirting with the idea of tagging him a second year in a row.

I'm very thankful I didn't get the franchise tag again but still hopeful this means something long term with the San Francisco 49ers!
