Aaron Brooks waived by Kings, signs with Houston

March 6, 2013

Aaron Brooks was just not part of the future in Sacramento - Isaiah Thomas and Tyreke Evans are your ball handlers there, Brooks was just not fitting in the mix.

The Rockets are hoping he can fit in the mix there off the bench.

Sacramento waived Aaron Brooks right before the March 1 deadline and now he has agreed to terms with Houston, tweets Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports.

Houston has reached agreement on a deal with Aaron Brooks, source tells Y! Sports.— Adrian Wojnarowski (@WojYahooNBA) March 05, 2013

Brooks' deal with Rockets includes a team option for next season, sources tell Y!— Adrian Wojnarowski (@WojYahooNBA) March 05, 2013

To answer your next question - yes, Brooks will be available on the Rockets playoff roster. (By the way, I'm thinking the Rockets against the Thunder or Clippers would be a lot of fun to watch in the first round, so I'm rooting for that.)

Brooks came off the bench for part of the 2011 season in Houston, averaging 11.6 points a game but on just 34.6 percent shooting. Which is not efficient for a shoot-first point guard. However, this is a very different Rockets team now, with James Harden and Jeremy Lin leading a more up-tempo attack. Brooks shot 45.9 percent overall and 37.8 percent from three for the Kings. If Brooks is knocking down threes at that rate he could be a valuable addition to the Rockets off the bench.
