Would the 49ers go ahead and release the guy already? The market is slowly drying up for Alex Smith, and if they choose to let Dashon Goldson walk in order to 'get value' for Smith, they would be making a big time mistake.
According to Darin Gantt of profootballtalk.com, 49ers general manager Trent Baalke told Smith all the options are on the table, but they are not. Opting to let Pro-Bowl safety Goldson walk won't bring the value of keeping him in the fold.
Also, the market for Smith is weakening with Arizona the only team right now interested, and they won't trade for him or the 49ers won't trade him within the division.
So where are all the options? NFL teams aren't dumb, they know if you have few or no suitors just wait and you'll cut them. Alex Smith makes $8 million in 2013, and why would Smith renegotiate his salary to back up status when all he has to do is say no, and become a free agent.
So where again are all the options?
