Today marked the second day of the 49ers 3-day mini-camp. Most of the conversation centered around defense and the progress of some of the team's young players. One of the big questions for for the 49ers and their fans concerned on the health of Justin Smith and how he would return from injury.
Smith feels he is on target to return on time from off-season surgery and in fact felt he could play in a game tomorrow. Smith told reporters, "you just want to be back at 100 percent. At your all-time best strength wise, [i'm} probably about a month out from that, so close."
See what else the 49ers veteran had to say.
It's often tough to get a great read on how the defensive players are progressing during a mini-camp. Players aren't wearing pads and there is no contact to speak of. 49ers defensive coordinator Vic Fangio told us what his goals are for the mini-camp.
“Well, the mini-camp is just a continuation of the OTAs where we’re installing our defense. Teaching the assignments, the fundamentals, the techniques and the concepts, the different concepts that we will use during the season, and we’re installing them now. We’re not in the game planning, or playing any particular type of offense. It’s just installing and inserting all of our concepts.”
Fangio also talked about the additions to the defensive line as well as what secound year players are standing out.
