The Boston Herald’s report on Friday that the Giants had “internally considered” re-acquiring Pablo Sandoval seemed hard to believe. According to San Francisco general manager Bobby Evans, that’s because it is.

Evans refuted the report that he was involved in any discussions surrounding bringing “The Panda” back into the fold on Saturday, in a statement to MLB.com.

“I am not aware of any consideration of a reunion, but we’ll never forget all that he meant to the Giants organization,” Evans told Chris Haft.

Sandoval, 30, was a member of all three Giants World Series teams and a beloved figure in San Francisco before his sudden and surprising departure to Boston after helping lead San Francisco to a title in 2014. Sandoval had the worst season of his career with the Red Sox in 2015 (.245, 10 HR, 47 RBI) and had only six at bats last season due to a left shoulder surgery.

Though the Giants are seemingly, and strangely, in the market for a third baseman, a move for Sandoval wouldn’t make much sense, especially considering his current contract. Sandoval has three years and $54.8 million left on his five-year deal.
