Matt Miller: Christian McCaffrey is ‘tailor-made’ for Kyle Shanahan’s offense

NFL Draft scout Matt Miller joined The Audible Friday morning to discuss the upcoming draft and how the 49ers’ new regime is likely to perform in their first offseason.

Kevin Frandsen asked Miller about the idea of Stanford’s Christian McCaffrey falling to the second round, and whether he would fit well in Kyle Shanahan’s offensive scheme.

“Oh my god yeah, I would love that. I look at McCaffrey — like tailor-made for this offense — because he is quick enough to be that plant and go runner, he’s great as a receiver out of the backfield,” said Miller. “I compared him to Reggie Bush, and I know I am gonna take a lot of heat for that, but I think that’s the type of player he can be.”

McCaffrey was the Heisman Trophy runner-up during his sophomore season with the Cardinal, breaking Barry Sanders’ NCAA record of 3,250 all-purpose yards and winning AP College Football Player of the Year.

Miller also threw out an interesting name for who the 49ers will take with the number two overall pick in the draft, former Alabama linebacker Reuben Foster.

“I basically just said no more of these bad quarterbacks going to San Francisco,” Miller said. “Everything I’ve seen with my eyes and everything I hear is that the 49ers love Reuben Foster.”

Foster was the 2016 Butkus Award winner, given annually to the nation’s top linebacker, and was a unanimous All-American with the Crimson Tide last season.

“I think Myles Garrett could, I honestly do,” Miller said when asked about this draft having a franchise-altering player. “If the Browns don’t draft him, I think we would see a record set for fastest draft pick ever, because the 49ers would be all over this kid.”
