Buster Posey strongly advocates for U.S. participation in WBC

Giants catcher Buster Posey will not be featuring in Wednesday’s final of the World Baseball Classic, but has played a key role in his first stint representing team USA.

Posey is fourth on the team in OPS with 15 at-bats, and is tied for the team lead with two home runs. Though Posey is a marquee player, many of the leagues best — Mike Trout and Bryce Harper to name a few — have elected to sit the tournament out.

Posey told KNBR’s Cody Pasby before Wednesday’s game that he would recommend the opportunity to play for team USA to anybody that has the chance to do it.

“It’s different, it’s been a great experience that I would highly recommend if anybody has an opportunity to do it,” Posey said. “It’s different than the World Series. The World Series you’re with those guys for eight, nine months and there’s a little more to it with the length of time playing with a group of guys, but this group of guys has been great and honestly a huge honor to represent your country.”
