A’s hat swap giving fans a chance to trade in Giants hats

To celebrate their 50th season in Oakland, the A’s announced in a press release Thursday they will begin a Spirit Week next Monday, consisting of various events and promotions throughout the Oakland area.

The campaign is already generating a large amount of buzz, thanks in large part to a hat swap that will be held at every event, encouraging people to trade in Giants hats for A’s hats.

From the press release:

Trade in your Giants cap for an A’s one: Fans can trade in a San Francisco Giants cap for a new Green and Gold A’s cap at all public Spirit Week events, including the April 1 Bay Bridge game at the Coliseum.

The promotional event is both an excellent troll job of the Giants, and the beginning of a concerted effort by new A’s owner Dave Kaval, to secure more fans in the East Bay, where despite the fact that the A’s play there, still has more baseball fans who affiliate themselves with the Giants.

Via SB Nation, here’s a list of locations where fans can swap hats:

  • Mon., March 27, noon: Oakland City Hall.
  • Mon., March 27, 6-9 p.m.: 19th St. & Webster.
  • Wed., March 29, 8-9 a.m.: Peet’s Coffee, 1111 Broadway in Oakland.
  • Thu., March 30, 4:30-5:15 p.m.: Coliseum Plaza, between Coliseum & Oracle.
  • Sat., April 1, noon first pitch: Oakland Coliseum.
