Arroyo shares thought process during his game-winning home run

SAN FRANCISCO – Watching Christian Arroyo conjures up the feelings of watching a star being born.

Arroyo’s first week of accomplishments has been widely reported. Stealing his first MLB hit from the best pitcher in the game, deftly playing both third base and short stop, and smacking his first two two long balls in extremely advantages times for the Giants – all in a week’s work for the rookie.

And Friday’s accomplishment might have been the most impressive of the bunch.

Locked in a 3-3 game with the San Diego Padres, one in which all of San Francisco’s runs were aided by errors, the Giants couldn’t seem to get much sustained offense going. Enter Arroyo.

“I was not trying to hit a home run,” Arroyo said after the game. “Just trying to get the head out, see a pitch over the plate, barrel something. Just get on base.”

Boy did he.
