Giants place Melancon on DL with forearm injury

Mark Melancon is headed to the disabled list.

The Giants closer has a right pronator strain located close to the elbow. As a result, the Giants will be playing one man short Tuesday night when they take the field in New York. A corresponding roster move will be made on Wednesday.

Melancon hasn’t pitched since May 3rd in Los Angeles, when he picked up his sixth save against the Dodgers. In 11 appearances this season, he has 2.53 ERA and a 1.31 WHIP with two blown saves. Derek Law seems most likely to take over the closing role as he’s been the most consistent set up man for Melancon.

More to come as the story unfolds on KNBR.com.
