Bochy on Blach’s bounce-back performance: “I was proud of him”

SAN FRANCISCO – The last time Ty Blach stepped on the mound, it was against the same Cincinnati Reds he faced Thursday night. He gave up 11 hits and 10 runs in just three innings, bumping his 2.55 ERA all the way up to 5.66.

Thursday was a different story. The 26-year-old went seven innings, only allowing 2 runs on 5 hits. Even though the Giants lost the game, Blach’s manager was complimentary of the way young pitcher performed.

“You can loose a little confidence,” Bochy said Thursday, recalling Blach’s last start against the Reds. “It was probably a little embarrassing really and he comes back a throws a game like that. I was proud of him.”

“Some things started spinning out of control,” Blach said of his last start against the Reds. “Just didn’t make the pitches when I needed to. Was able to do that today. Worked out of a couple of jams, limit the damage. That was really big.”

Game 2 of the series Friday night pits Johnny Cueto against Scott Feldman. First pitch is at 7:15 p.m..
