After leading the league with 30 blown saves in 2016, the Giants let veteran free agent relievers like Sergio Romo and Santiago Casilla go and signed Mark Melancon to a 4 year $62 million contract that came with lofty expectations.
After blowing his first save opportunity of the year on Opening Day vs. the Diamondbacks and landing on the DL for the first time in his career, Melancon hasn’t been living up to those expectations.
Kevin Frandsen of the Audible, KNBR 1050’s morning show, says it’s too early to be concerned about Melancon and that Giants fans will look back at his contract as a major success.
