Giants have one prospect on Baseball America Top 100 list

One is better than none.

At least that’s the optimistic mindset to have after seeing that Chris Shaw was the only prospect in the Giants organization to be named to Baseball America’s Midseason Top 100 list.

The Giants’ first round draft pick in 2015 has been tearing it up down on the farm. Shaw started the season with the AA Richmond Flying Squirrels, where his .301 batting average got him promoted to the AAA Sacramento River Cats. In 37 games with the River Cats, Shaw is hitting .299 with eight home runs and 24 RBI’s.

Shaw has caught fire as of late, hitting .395 over his past 10 games.

Shaw’s stellar play is good news for the Giants. It’s somewhat alarming, however, to have only one prospect in the current top 100, especially for an organization sitting at the bottom of the league during a tough 2017 season.

Pitcher Tyler Beede was the only Giants prospect on Baseball America’s preseason Top 100 list. It’s an even further step back from last season’s midseason list, which had five Giants prospects.

It’s possible that the Giants will reward Shaw with a September call-up, although it could be a bit complicated considering that he is not on the 40 man roster.

Regardless, whether it’s during 2017 or 2018, expect Shaw to get his chance to prove himself with the big league club in the near future.
