Krukow high on Giants’ pitching prospects from Nunez trade

The Giants made a move Tuesday that had been long rumored as they shipped off third baseman Eduardo Nunez to the Boston Red Sox in return for two right-handed minor league pitching prospects, Shaun Anderson and Gregory Santos.

Anderson is a 22-year-old former third-round pick out of the University of Florida, while Santos is just 17 and joined the Red Sox minor league system straight from the Dominican Republic. Considering that Nunez is merely a rental for Boston with his contract up at the end of this year, it seems as though the Giants got a decent haul for the former All-Star.

Giants broadcaster Mike Krukow told Murph & Mac on KNBR Wednesday morning that he believes both Anderson and Santos have potential.

“I think they are both arms of reputation,” Krukow said. “Anderson is having a good season down in (Single-A) so he could move up the ladder fast. [Santos] I can tell you right now that he’s a hard thrower, and he’s got a lot of growing to do, he’s got to get his strength level [up]. It’s unlikely you see him for another three or four years. But what if you get a guy who’s going to be in your rotation for five or six years or your bullpen for six or seven years, that could happen. With young pitching it just has to develop and you have to give it some time and that’s what the Giants are going to do with these guys. You’re never going to be able to fully evaluate the trade until these guys get to the big league level and you can see what they can do, so there are a couple of big ifs that surround each guy. But I do think that they’ve got reputation and they’ve got stuff.”
