Giants infielder Eduardo Nunez was traded to the Boston Red Sox during the fifth inning of Tuesday’s game against the Pirates. The departure was emotional for both Nunez and his teammates, who lined up in the dugout to hug him as he made his way into the clubhouse for the final time.

Nunez took to Twitter on Thursday to thank the Giants organization and his teammates, who he said are like family.

While Nunez will be gone for the remainder of the season, there is still the possibility that he could return next year, when he becomes a free agent in the winter.

“This is that time of year and you spend a lot of time with each other and it’s not easy for these guys,” Bochy said after the game. “They know that something was probably going to happen. Especially with Nuni. They were kidding him everyday. You still here? You still here? But you know, he’s going to a place, going to a very good ballclub, he’s got a chance to get to the postseason, so I’m happy for him and he’ll help that ballclub and I can tell you that so hopefully our paths will cross again.”

Nunez made it clear he’d like to be back.

“For sure, I would love to. It’s a great organization, great city, great fans. I love the family here, they are my brothers, true brothers. Sure, we look forward.”
