SAN FRANCISCO–With less than an hour to go before Tuesday evening’s contest against the Brewers, the Giants were forced to make a late switch to their lineup.

Right fielder Hunter Pence was scratched with a tight left hamstring, and he’ll be replaced in the order by Gorkys Hernandez.

Pence was initially slotted into the two-hole, so with Hernandez taking over in right field, manager Bruce Bochy moved second baseman Kelby Tomlinson from the eighth slot in the order to the second spot. Hernandez will bat eighth.

Pence is hitting .259 this season, and had recorded hits in eight of his last nine games, including one in Monday evening’s victory.

The Giants turn to right-hander Jeff Samardzija on Tuesday night after taking game one of their three-game set against Milwaukee behind a strong six-inning outing from Chris Stratton. Stratton kept the Brewers scoreless, and wound up earning the win in San Francisco’s first home shutout victory of 2017.
