Krukow on Stanton: ‘If you’re going to do it, you’re going to have to give up the world’

The rumor mill is whirling with potential as recent reports have highlighted the Giants as one of the teams most interested in Miami slugger Giancarlo Stanton.

With the Giants in desperate need of a power-hitter in the outfield, Stanton would be a sure-fire candidate to aid the lineup, considering he leads the majors in home runs with 51.

However Stanton’s contract, a 13 year, $325,000,000 deal, raises huge red flags for any team hoping to land him. With his contract set until 2028, Stanton would be a risky gamble, and would require a steep price to pay.

Mike Krukow remains skeptical about the Stanton deal, stating Wednesday on KNBR’s The Murph & Mac Show that although it’s certainly fun to think about it, the potential package the Giants would have to offer is simply too great.

“It’s fun to think that way but I think there’s less than 10 percent chance of that happening with Giancarlo Stanton,” Krukow said. “I don’t think the money is such an obstacle, I’m not sure the money is such an obstacle – that’s an obstacle I mean, that’s a lot of iron, that’s $200 hundred million laid out there. But I don’t know what kind of package. What do you do? Give him the left field bleacher section and the Coke bottle? Because right now he’s going to demand just about whatever. The price would be extremely high ”

“If you’re going to do it, you’re going to have to give up the world and you’re going to have to take a lot of money,” he added. “I don’t know if it even makes sense.”
