Giants’ left fielder Jarrett Parker exits game against Cardinals with left side tightness

SAN FRANCISCO–Jarrett Parker began the season as San Francisco’s Opening Day left fielder, but a mid-April injury robbed him of an opportunity to hang onto his job for much of the year.

On April 15, Parker suffered a broken clavicle after crashing into the outfield wall at AT&T Park, and didn’t return to San Francisco’s lineup until August 3.

Now, Parker is dealing with a new injury.

On Friday evening, Parker exited the Giants’ contest against the St. Louis Cardinals with left side tightness after playing just four innings. The Giants announced in the sixth inning that Parker is “day-to-day.”

Parker began the night 0-for-1 at the plate, and was intentionally walked in his third inning plate appearance. When Parker was on first base, he attempted to steal second a handful of times, but Giants’ starting pitcher Johnny Cueto prevented him from doing so by fouling off a few pitches before striking out.

Parker was replaced in left field by Gorkys Hernandez, who made an impressive running catch on the warning track in the top of the fifth inning.
