Johnny Cueto forces Hunter Pence to savor every moment of home run against Rockies

SAN FRANCISCO–Hunter Pence likes to run fast.

Johnny Cueto doesn’t like to run at all. Or jog. Or trot.

Instead, Cueto likes to walk, and that’s exactly what he did on Tuesday night after Pence launched a towering two-run home run to dead center field in the bottom of the fifth inning.

After Cueto led off the frame with a single to right field –his fourth hit of the season– Pence smashed a 444-foot shot to center field to give the Giants a 3-2 lead. Pence was running around the base paths when he nearly caught up to Cueto, who turned back and motioned for Pence to slow down. After feigning an interest in jogging, Cueto slowed down to a walk after he passed third base.

Cueto’s not on the basepaths often, so he probably wanted to savor the moment. Pence, meanwhile, got to enjoy his 12th home run of the season for a little longer than he usually would.
