SANTA CLARA–The San Francisco 49ers need a win in the worst way.
On the first play of Thursday night’s game against the Los Angeles Rams, quarterback Brian Hoyer didn’t exactly help the team’s cause.
Instead, Hoyer had a disastrous start to the game, throwing an interception on San Francisco’s first play from scrimmage that set up an easy Rams’ touchdown drive.
Hoyer was looking for Marquise Goodwin, but after he tried to throw him open on a quick out route, Hoyer’s pass was intercepted by Los Angeles cornerback Nickell Robey-Coleman who took the pass down inside the 49ers’ five-yard line. On the very next play, Rams’ running back Todd Gurley forced his way into the end zone to give the Rams a 7-0 lead.
Hoyer did make up for his mistake on the 49ers’ next drive, as he carried the ball into the end zone on a quarterback scramble to tie up the score 7-7.
