PHOENIX, Ariz.–The horse is riding off into the sunset.

On Wednesday morning, Giants’ pitcher Matt Cain announced that his Saturday start will be the final outing of his Major League career. The 13th year veteran came up with the Giants in 2005, and won three World Series rings with the orange and black.

“I just wanted to let you guys know that I think that Saturday and this weekend will be my last time putting on a Major League and a Giants’ uniform and I can’t see myself going anywhere else to be able to play with another team,” Cain said. “This organization has meant so much to me, it’s meant so much to my family and it’s something that’s dear to my heart. I’m just grateful that it’s been a part of my life and I’ve enjoyed it. I’ve enjoyed it so much.”

Cain said that he told the Giants of his intentions to retire on Tuesday, and that it will allow him the opportunity to enjoy the final weekend of his career at the only stadium he’s ever called home, AT&T Park.

“I believe so and that took me awhile to kind of come to that conclusion,” Cain said. “It gives me a little more freedom to be able to go out Saturday and enjoy the moment and enjoy even today and Friday and Sunday. The last few days it’s been something that’s been on my mind and I was trying to find the correct way. I don’t know if there’s a right way or a wrong way of doing it, but after really thinking about it and taking my time with it, I felt like this was the best thing for myself and even for the team and for the fans. I feel like this works out the right way.”
