Ezekiel Elliott expected to miss Week 7 matchup with 49ers

The next installment of the Cowboys-49ers rivalry will miss one of the game’s biggest stars.

On Thursday afternoon, the 5th circuit ruled 2-1 in favor of the NFL that the district court did not have subject matter jurisdiction in Ezekiel Elliott’s case, thus vacating the initial injunction and directs an order to the lower court to dismiss the case that allowed the Dallas running back to play at the outset of this season.

If all that legal jargon is a bit much, essentially, Elliott will now have to serve the six-game suspension he received for first-time domestic violence violations. The NFL suspended Elliott in August, but Elliott was allowed to play after a successful appeal.

The Cowboys have a bye this week, so Elliott would begin serving his six-game suspension against the 49ers next Sunday. Elliott has rushed for 393 yards through the Cowboys’ first five games this season, and is averaging 3.7 yards per game after rushing for 2,024 yards last year.
